It gives me great pleasure to present the new Managing Director of Nova, dr Christiaan Pauw.
Christiaan was born on 12 Januarie 1973. I met him when I was a part-time lecturer and he was a student at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Pretoria in 1997, and Montagu Murray a year later. They were involved in a Nova project for the first time in 1998 and then worked with Nova somewhat sporadically for a time, but things developed well and they have been with Nova on a full time basis for years now. The three of us have worked closely for more than ten years and that is a key factor in the success of Nova so far.
In 1994, when Nova was established, I was the only Nova employee, and it was a privilege to have people like Christiaan and Montagu join in and become part of the process. As Nova grew stronger, we became the executive directors on the Nova Board of Directors. Nova has a very flat authority structure, and I have suggested before that we rotate the role of MD between the three of us. I am glad that Christiaan can take over the role now. It will bring new initiatives and new ideas, that can only be good for all of us.
Christiaan is married to Jeanette, a statistician, and they have three children. They live in Hartenbos close to George, where he runs Nova’s Southern Cape office.
He has become an expert in research in households and communities and also in aspects of payment for ecosystem services including air quality and water offset methodologies. He is a team player who appreciates and encourages the other members of the team and has the support of all of us. He is very innovative, but also works hard to do the day to day tasks that makes a venture such as Nova a success.
