Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Tertius has more than 10 years’ experience in the financial operations of non-profit companies. In June 2007 he joined Nova Institute and he is currently the CFO. Apart from his primary responsibilities in managing Nova’s finances, Tertius is also involved in research projects where his activities include analysing data and writing of project and financial reports.
He holds a B.Com Honours degree in Marketing- and Communication Management from the University of Pretoria and frequently participates in MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) to improve his skills in relevant subjects. Previous Coursera courses completed include Maps and the Geospatial Revolution, Climate Literacy: Navigating Climate Change Conversations and The Data Scientist’s Toolbox.
Previous work experience at Nova includes the implementation and verification of Nova’s Basa Magogo project. This project was the first in South Africa to issue Gold Standard VERs and it aims to reduce air pollution while improving the quality of life for low-income households in South Africa. He played an active role in setting up Nova’s accounting and monitoring systems.
Non-Nova work experience include contract research for investment opportunities in the Nelson Mandela Metro for Garnett-Adams, a business consultancy firm, as well as holding the position of Marketing Manager for LEFI, a non-profit organisation focusing on care takers in the community. His dream is to help with the upliftment of low-income households in Southern Africa. When not working on this dream at Nova, he loves swimming, birding and spending time in nature with his wife and their three children.
