Nova has over the years developed the skills and systems to be the best one-stop-service-centre in South Africa for the monitoring and managing of larger scale community offset programmes.  Nova has been working in low-income communities in South Africa for more than 20 years.  More than 10 years ago, Nova became the first organisation in South Africa to register a Gold Standard methodology in the voluntary carbon market.  Since then, we have implemented in more than 80 000 households and have been issued with more than 200 000 carbon credits. The income raised through the selling of carbon credits is used to further pursue the Nova vision and mission to improve quality of life in low-income communities.

Nova has in recent years been contracted by three significant large industries in South Africa to assist with the development of their community air quality offset programmes.  Nova has since been pivotal in the designing, testing and piloting phases of several community air quality offset projects.

Offset programmes can be complex to execute, since it requires a broad skill-set and things can go wrong if it is not done properly and in consultation with participating households and communities.
